protecting against Injury & Disease

We know chronic illnesses like heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, STDs and even accidental injuries can be prevented if we take appropriate steps to protect ourselves. If we do develop an illness, we can live much longer, healthier lives if we make appropriate use of the medical and social support we need to manage the disease.

Key indicators of how Washington measures in the category of Protecting Against Injury and Disease include:

Receipt of Proven Preventive Care
Seat Belt Use

WHF believes that healthy communities, investments in prevention and high value medical and public health systems lay indispensable groundwork for protecting against injury and disease. But we will not know how healthy Washington is unless we know how we use those systems. Consequently, WHF has chosen the above two measures we feel are sentinel for knowing the extent to which Washingtonians are availing themselves of opportunities to avoid injury and disease.
