2007 Governor's Health Bowl

The 2007 Governor’s Health Bowl Begins September 18th
— Are You Ready to Play?!

Washington’s premier health event begins September 18th and runs through November 1st. The third annual Governor’s Health Bowl will have the largest group of participants in Health Bowl history.

More than 35,000 individuals, over 900 organizations and 300-plus schools from every corner of Washington State are participating this year. The Health Bowl is a joint partnership between the Washington Health Foundation and Governor Chris Gregoire to promote better health across our state. The goal is to make Washington the Healthiest State in the Nation (our current rank is 15 according to the United Health Foundation).

During the Health Bowl, Washingtonians will have six weeks to build healthy habits or to get credit for the healthy habits they already have — and then log their miles on the Healthiest State Campaign website at www.HealthiestState.org (and bonus miles are available for other healthy activities, like taking a Health Risk Assessment or quitting tobacco). Some people will walk, some will jog, others might bike or swim — but all of them will be taking part in the largest civic engagement project for health in state history.

This year’s goal is a staggering five million miles of health!! That is equivalent to 10 round trips — to the MOON!!

Every mile, every yard, every step taken during the 2007 Governor’s Health Bowl takes us one step closer to our goal of making Washington the Healthiest State in the Nation!!

So, don’t forget to watch the scoreboards to see who’s involved and who’s in the lead! Also, click here to view the fabulous PRIZES up for grabs in this year’s Health Bowl.

Governor’s Health Bowl: School Challenge

More than 300 schools across Washington state are already participating in this year’s School Challenge. Two $5,000 prizes will be given to the top two winning schools. This year’s challenge revolves around Coordinated School Health, with an emphasis on physical activity and nutrition.

Teachers log miles for students’ in-class activity, and parents can lend a hand by logging the miles of health their family accumulates outside of school. The competition is equal between schools of all sizes because the miles are averaged as “miles per student participating”.
